Choosing a school for my child

Published article from Broadstone Christian Nursery

We are so lucky to have a good choice of schools in this area. However, it can be quite daunting on which school will be best suited for your child.

The local schools will be advertising open evenings/days. To find out more contact the schools direct and also have a look at their websites. For information and guidance speak to the Poole Schools Admission Team 01202 261936 or Poole Family Information Service 01202 261999.

To apply for a Poole school reception place go to www.poole.gov.uk/schooladmissions or Dorset www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/school-admissions Deadline dates for applications - for Poole Admissions by 15th January 2019 and Dorset Admissions by 15th January 2019.

Don’t just pick one school, go and visit at least 2 or 3 schools, as they are all so different.

See and find out what the school has to offer. Are the children involved in their learning? What is the atmosphere like? How do the children and teachers interact with each other?

Go by your gut instinct and first impressions - ask yourself how would my child feel at this school? would he/she be happy? can they meet his/hers needs? Book an appointment and take your child with you. You’re child’s reactions will help you to make your decision.

Consider your child’s interest, talents and individual style of learning.

Go with a list of questions ie does the school offer wrap around care? Will you have enough time to get to work, other children to childcare? What is the behaviour policy?: How are children settled into the school and when do they start?
